Lawrence Welk
Lets Her Sing, 1978
Debbie Gautreau sang with Lawrence Welk at a Saturday night performance at the LSU Assembly Center
Debbie was the first place winner in a contest staged by the radio station WTKL: preceding the Welk concert.
By winning, the country music star was given a chance to audition with Welk. She met him in his dressing room and sang "you light up my life" and won his approval for a five minute slot on his show. She received a standing ovation in the packed arena that night. She was then invited to perform a piece on his TV show.

Debbie Performs songs from her current CD "It's a male thing " 3:15pm-4:00pm
- Along with Jeff Williams
- Hank Williams SR. Singing " I'm so lonely I could cry.
- And John Fred who had the number one hit over the Beatles in the 60's " Judy's in Disguise with Glasses.

Baton Rouge founded 67 years before the signing of the Declaration of Independence, celebrated the 200th
Birthday of the United States.
Thousands gathered at the old state capital along the Mississippi River, to take part in the official
ceremonies.
Country music singer Debbie Gautreau the reigning "Miss LA Teen Queen" performed at the old state capital
during the daylong festivities.
Special items and artifacts from the birthday celebration, and a July 5th newspaper were put in to a time
capsule the will not be reopened until the tricentennial
